About the event
Our classes were written by one of our instructors Jeff Griffin, Mecklenburg County, N.C. Code Enforcement manager. Jeff serves on the NC Department Of Insurance, Office of the State Fire Marshal. He was a key figure while writing Appendix M. He has also collaborated with the NCLBGC in creating next year's Mandatory CE Class.
At this time, our classes are 8 hours providing our board approved 4-hour and 2-hour elective classes (see below) and the 2-hour NCLBGC mandatory class. Upon successful completion of our 8-hour session, credits will be uploaded to the board with the qualifier number provided and certificates of completion will be emailed. Please proved an accurate email when registering to ensure proper delivery of your certificate.
2 HOUR ELECTIVE: NC Deck Basics (2018 NCRC Appendix M)
During this course we will discuss the following:
- We will begin with a review of deck failures since 2003. This is an invaluable tool in learning code compliant deck construction.
- 2018 NCRC Appendix M Wood Decks and the IRC Deck Code/National Code.
- Decks as accessory structures in NC and walk though an example of a specific deck design (will be used to determine each element of construction during review of appendix M).
- Software options for design
- Wood products and fastener requirements
- Footer requirements and tributary area
4 HOUR ELECTIVE: Construction Regulation in N.C.
During this course we will discuss the following:
- Current challenges to the construction industry and the future implications of these challenges
- The national background on codes including a timeline on NC code requirements through the modern era
- 2020-2022 session law significant bills impacting NC construction and show you how to view the content of the six bills that have recently been signed into law
- The most current permit requirements so you will be up to date on recent changes per GS 160D-1110
- Code and the NC Residential Code and show you where to go to find future amendments
Registration begins at 7:00 am and class will begin promptly at 8:00 am and end at 5:00 pm including 10-minute breaks at every hour and a one hour lunch break. Attendees must be present in class during all instruction periods in order to receive CE credit.
If attendance requirement is not met, credits will not be issued and no refunds will be given. Upon entry, you will be asked to present a valid picture ID and your NCLBGC QUALIFIER NUMBER. This is NOT the same as your license number. You can find your QUALIFIER NUMBER at nclbgc.org. QUALIFIER NUMBERS must be verified to ensure you receive proper credit for the class. We will submit your credits to the NCLBGC upon successful completion of the class. Please review our cancellation/refund policy for further information.
