Prior to attending class, you will need the 2018 NC Residential Code, NASCLA Contractor’s Guide to Business Law & Project Management and OSHA handbook of construction industry regulations. These books can be purchased from the Contractor Book Warehouse at a discounted rate by using the link on the listed at the bottom of this page. A North Carolina General Contractors License, Residential Classification, covers all construction and demolition activity pertaining to the construction of residential units which are required to conform to the NC residential building code. It also includes all site work, driveways, sidewalks, and water and wastewater systems ancillary to the aforementioned structures and improvements; and the work done as part of such residential units under the specialty classifications of S(Insulation), S(Interior Construction), S(Masonry Construction), S(Roofing), S(Swimming Pools, and S(Asbestos). The Residential General Contractor Classification Exam consists of 90 multiple choice questions. Examinees have 3½ hours (210 minutes) in which to complete the residential exam. You must answer 63 questions correctly in order to obtain a passing score of 70%. The current pass rate state-wide is less than 40% on the first attempt. The Construction Institute’s students’ pass rate is in the high 90th percentile on the first attempt. During the seminar we will review the three reference books which you will take into the exam with you (2018 NC Residential Code, OSHA and the NASCLA Contractor's Guide to Business, Law & Project Mgmt) including how to tab them and what information to highlight and underline. We will also review the exam material from the 10 reference books you cannot take into the exam with you (those you DO NOT need to purchase).
